The Bugle Stand Plaza was dedicated on November 3, 2017.
The Bugle Stand currently found in front of Duncan Dining Hall at the south end of the Corps Quad was given by the Class of 1936 in memory of Cadet Edwin (Pat) O’Brien Bellinger ‘36 (May 30, 1914 – July 9, 1935) from New Braunfels. He was a member of the Texas Aggie Band. He also served as the Corps Bugler and RV. While attending Field Artillery Officer summer Camp for ROTC Cadets at Camp Bullis, San Antonio, when on July 9, 1935, during the morning formation an artillery piece was fired causing Bellinger’s horse to rear. Cadet Bellinger fell, struck his head on the ground and died two hours later from a laceration to his head and subsequent brain injury. The original Bugle Stand at Houston Street Circle next to the YMCA was dedicated on Mother’s Day, May 10, 1936, by his ’36 Classmates.
The Bellinger Bugle Stand was moved from its initial location to the North Corps Quad in 1957; to the north end of the South Corps Quad in 1962; and later in 1972 to the south end of the quad in front of Duncan. There it remained surrounded by groad holes until the Quad redevelopment project when in November 2017 the Texas Aggie Class of 1969 refurbished and re-dedicated the Bugle Stand Plaza in memory of Cadet Edwin (Pat) O’Brien Bellinger, Class of 1936.`
